About
Alana Moore (she/her) (b.1988) is a queer/sober/spoonie artist who lives as a white settler on Treaty 6 Territory in Borden, SK. Drawing from her personal experiences with chronic pain, addiction and mental illness, Alana's work investigates how to create shared meaning with participatory projects using dialogue, process, photography, design and often non-object based outcomes.
She is currently the Artist-in-Residence at Sherbrooke Community Centre, a youth mentor artist with FAM (Future Artistic Minds), and a member of BAM (Bridges Art Movement). Starting in January 2022, Alana and Amber Phelps-Bondaroff have been working on a community-engaged art project for people living with dementia and their care partners. The project, Belong Where You Find Yourself works with 12 artist participants from Yorkton and surrounding areas through a one-year creation period leading to a gallery exhibition at the GDAG and a presentation tour to local rural locations in 2023.
In 2012, Alana obtained her BFA from the University of Saskatchewan. As an emerging artist, she has a growing body of group exhibitions, as well as experience in art education, arts administration and curatorial projects. In 2015 and 2016, Moore curated and Directed, Street Meet: Saskatoon’s Street, Public and Graffiti Art Festival. When not arting, you can find her reading science fiction with a cat or two on her lap, tending to her garden and plants, and choreographing her daily physio exercises.
